Delaware was founded in 1631 by Dutch settlers but the first perment settlement was done by Peter Minuit and the New Sweden company. Delaware or previously known as "New Sweden" was orginally part of New Netherland. This land was first owned by Charles II, the king of England and then later passed down to his brother, James, the Duke of York. Then shortly after he renamed it Delaware. In 1655, the Swedish ended their rule.s
